Ferne McCann hits back at cruel mum-shamers over baby’s unusual name
FERNE McCann hit back after coming under attack from cruel mum-shamers over the unusual name of her newborn daughter.
The former Towie star announced the birth of her little girl this week before revealing the unique moniker she and her fiancé Lorri Haines have given her.
The couple have chosen the name Finty, with Ferne saying she was unsure where she heard it first but that she felt “connected” to it.
Ferne, who is also mum to daughter Sunday from a previous relationship, also believes it “sounds like a character out of Bridgerton”.
But the mum-of-two has now been forced to hit back after falling victim to critics on social media.
Writing on Ferne’s Instagram page, one person posted two ‘crying with laughter’ emojis and wrote: “She cannot be serious with that name.”

Another posted: “Poor kid been called that?”
And a third added: “That name ain’t cute. sound old .”
Someone else even addressed Ferne’s mother Jill, penning: “Nanny Jill chat to ur daughter…. What name is dat.”
Ferne, 32, has since read the mean comments about Finty’s name and has replied to someone who has stuck up for her.
The supporter called Molly had written: “The name means Pure ❤️🌸 cannot believe in 2023 people still think its acceptable to leave such nasty comments.
“A lovely name and a beautiful new addition to a family. Congratulations guys.”
Ferne replied: “Thank you babe, not everyone will like it but we do and that is all that matters. Xx.”
Ferne and Lorri welcomed their daughter into the world on July 6 and announced her safe arrival three days later.
The reality star shared a sweet black and white video of their newborn’s feet on Instagram and captioned it: “It’s a girl. 06.07.23.”
Earlier this week, Ferne confirmed their daughter’s name in her column for OK! magazine.
She wrote: “It was on my name list when I gave birth to Sunday.
“I don’t know where I got it from, but when I typed it in [on Google] I saw Judi Dench’s daughter’s nickname is Finty.
“I’ve always loved it and never heard it anywhere else before.
“I just feel so connected to the name – she came out and she was just Finty.
“I think she sounds like a character out of Bridgerton.”
Ferne has since admitted that she knew Finty’s name would “split hairs” but said she would never choose a “bog standard” moniker.
“Now the name… I knew it was going to split some hairs but I just think if you go for a popular name, an unusual name, whatever name you go for, the’s always going to be a few people that won’t like it,” she wrote on Instagram.
“That’s just the way it is. But we all grow into our names and she’s such a little Finty.”

Ferne then added: “Also… let’s face it. I couldn’t have gone for a bog standard name because it had to go with Sunday.”
The mum-of-two Ferne shares Sunday with her ex Arthur Collins. Lorri also has a son from a previous relationship.
